DEV BLOG #44
Survivors,
We’re kicking off the new wipe with Tactical Warfare - one of our most action packed updates yet. Prepare for fresh, game-changing additions that elevate the Rust Console Edition experience. With new monuments, weapons, and a host of other features arriving on the island, this update is set to shake things up in a big way. Let’s dive into the details!
New Monument: The Abandoned Military Base
A brand-new point of interest has appeared on the map, the Abandoned Military Base. Once a high-security outpost, it is now crawling with loot, danger, and opportunities for those brave enough to explore it. Watch your corners and come prepared, because this new monument punishes the careless.
Return of the Military Tunnels
Military Tunnels are back by popular demand! We’ve made several backend improvements to boost the monument’s performance, so gear up, gather your squad, and dive back into it.
MLRS and Heavy Firepower!
This update introduces the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), your new favorite way to settle disputes from a distance! You will need two key components to make it rain rockets: both these components are obtainable from Locked Crates.
- MLRS Rockets provide powerful ammunition designed for pure destruction.
- MLRS Aiming Module is crucial for precision targeting before unleashing your barrage.
Once it’s all set in place, you can visit the Abandoned Military Base where the MLRS is located, and by interacting with it and selecting the right coordinates. You will be able to make it rain on your enemies in the worst way possible. Be sure to coordinate with your team, pick your target, and let the explosions do the talking.
Note: Each MLRS Aiming Module is only valid for one time use. In order to use the MLRS again, you will need to get a new aiming module.
The MLRS also has a cooldown timer of 20 minutes.
RC Drones
Scouting just got even better! With player-controlled drones, you can now survey the battlefield, track movement, or even plan ambushes without ever leaving cover. We’ve seen some really creative uses for the drones on the Steam version and we can’t wait to see what players will do in Rust Console Edition!
New Weapons
Ramp up your armoury! Here’s a breakdown of the new weapons being introduced in this update.
Handmade SMG: A scrappy yet reliable addition for early-game skirmishes.
SKS: A versatile semi-automatic rifle for those who value precision.
Minigun: When you want to turn enemies into mist.
Military Flame Thrower: Close-range chaos at its finest.
High Caliber Revolver: Classic stopping power with a serious punch.
Each weapon has its own unique feel, so get ready to test them all and find your new favorite.
New Recoil System
Yes, the recoil system has been updated, and it should now feel much more balanced across all weapons. We we will monitor player feedback so let us know how you find it.
The updated recoil system also makes it easier for us to introduce new weapons in the game and helps make combat more approachable for new players, without taking away the skill and mastery that Rust is known for.
Rest assured, we already have plans to release more feedback forms and run dedicated threads on our official Discord to gather your thoughts on these changes and track how you feel about them over time. We only ask that you share your thoughts in a constructive and respectful way, as it helps us make the best possible improvements for everyone.
Updated Dynamic Animations for View Models
Visuals matter, and your weapons are looking better than ever. The updated view models bring fresh detail and improved animations, making every reload, shot, and inspection feel more immersive.
We’ve also introduced an improved walking head bob for a more immersive experience, this can be turned on/off from the settings menu.
Player Experience Feedback Form
We recently released a Player Experience Feedback Form to hear directly from you, who make Rust Console Edition what it is (you can find it here). Your feedback helps us prioritize fixes, balance changes, and quality-of-life improvements and provides crucial information about where you would like to see for the game
If you have not filled it out yet, now is your chance. We genuinely want to know what you think about the current state of the game.
Part 2 of the feedback form will arrive in a few weeks. This one will focus on the new features from the Tactical Warfare Update, how they play, what works, and what could be better. Keep an eye out and keep those opinions coming.
Before We Go
We want to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported the Old Gen version of Rust Console Edition over the years. It has been an incredible journey, and we are truly proud of what we were able to accomplish on those platforms. Your dedication helped us shape the game into what it is today. Community servers will remain open for Old Gen for the time being.
As we move forward, we plan to push the New Gen version of Rust Console Edition to new levels of greatness. So if you still didn’t give the PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S versions a try, now it’s the right time to do it.
We also want to acknowledge that we are aware of some performance issues in the game. The team is actively prioritizing improvements to make gameplay smoother for everyone.
That’s all for now, Survivors. We hope you enjoy everything the Tactical Warfare Update has to offer.
- See you out there on the island.
