DEV BLOG #18

We are back at it again with another Dev Blog. With the recent release of CULTIVATOR on the main branch, now is the perfect time to offer a retrospective on the latest content update. Additionally, we'll provide you with a glimpse into the future of RUST Console Edition, offering a sneak peek of what lies ahead. So grab your gear and let’s get right into it!

CULTIVATOR RETROSPECTIVE

Now that CULTIVATOR is out in the wild, we're thrilled to see the positive feedback coming in about the new systems and improved terrain textures. We always strive to push the limits of what's possible on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and this update required a lot of work to make it happen. The performance has greatly improved, making the game run much smoother and look visually more appealing for everyone. The new farming 2.0 and other introduced items have also made the gameplay more enjoyable. But there's one specific aspect we would like to offer more clarity about, and that is the node system and map generation.

With the new terrain and map generation changes, the way nodes spawn on the map has been affected. They now spawn closer to the cliffs, following the pattern from the STEAM version. However, we encountered a small bug that caused the node density to be lower than intended. Don't worry though! We have a fix ready for the upcoming patch on June 29th, coinciding with the Monthly Wipe. This fix will improve the node system and bring RUST Console Edition more in line with the STEAM version in that aspect. There are other fixes coming with the monthly wipe, so be sure to keep an eye on our website so you don’t miss the patch notes for 1.71.

HORSEPOCALYPSE

We know how excited y’all are for the release of rideable horses in RUST Console Edition and the team has been working to optimise this feature since we released Cultivator on the main branch. The challenge lies in ensuring a smooth performance while accommodating the fast movement of horses and the additional animations they bring to the game. To guarantee the best possible experience for all of you, we will be working on optimization for a few more weeks to fine-tune the content before it's ready for testing. Our current plan is to start tests over on the public test branch (PTB) for HORSEPOCALYPSE, sometime in July. While we don't have a specific date yet, it's important to note that when we release it, the servers on the public test branch will have to be wiped, so please keep that in mind. As always, this substantial content update introduces a plethora of new features to enhance your gameplay experience. Take a look at upcoming features listed below:

  • Rideable horses.

  • Horse Breeds.

  • Horse Equipment.

  • Double horse saddles.

  • Ranch Monument & Large Barn Monument.

  • NPC Missions.

  • Monument visual update.

As you can see HORSEPOCALYPSE is shaping out to be one of the biggest content updates we ever had for RUST Console Edition. We can’t wait for all of you to try it out!

FIGHT HORROR WITH HORROR…

June 29th marks the release of our first legendary skin pack, the Necronomic Arsenal. This unique collection filled with unimaginable evil is composed of six different items, all with custom meshes. Do you have what it takes to wield the weapons of the void?

EXCITING UPDATES AWAIT!

With HORSEPOCALYPSE we are close to the end of another cycle which means it’s time to share a little glimpse of what’s to come in the future. To start, this year we will have bigger and more badass seasonal events! Halloween and Christmas will bring more of the exciting features from the STEAM version, making the events even more thrilling. In November we will have a huge quality of life and performance update that can bring some highly requested features with it, and finally in 2023 we still have the release of the highly anticipated Community Servers.

There’s a lot to be excited about for the future of RUST Console Edition, and it's all thanks to your unwavering support. We hope to see you all on the island very soon!
