Dev Blog #55 - 1.16 Patch Notes

A huge quality of life update, along with the highly requested Storage Box DLC, is making its way to the island, while the next chapter of Rust Console Edition is getting ready to be tested on the PTB!

September’s wipe is bringing plenty to look forward to, while October will give you an early look at what is coming next through the Public Test Branch. More importantly, it gives you the chance to jump in, share your feedback, and actively help us make the update the best it can be before release.

But before we dive deeper we want to talk about something we know has been incredibly important to many of you, which is server performance and stability.

As Rust Console Edition continues to grow, improving the foundations of the game remains one of our biggest priorities. We have a dedicated team currently focused on making communication between the game and our servers faster and more efficient, with the goal of creating a smoother and more stable experience across the board.

This work touches some of the most fundamental parts of how the game and our servers communicate, so it is not something that can be changed overnight. Progress is being made however, and this remains an area of major focus for the team as we continue building towards the future of Rust Console Edition.

There is still more work ahead, but we are excited about the progress being made. In our next Dev Blog, coming in late October, we hope to take you further behind the scenes and share more about what is changing, why it matters, and how these improvements will help shape the game moving forward.

Overground trains on PTB from Oct 6th to Oct 22nd!

Following the very positive reception to our Underground Trains update, it is finally time to head aboveground and bring the railway out into the wild, giving you plenty of new ways to start “railing” the competition.

But this update is about much more than a new trainline and a few new locomotives. Ziplines, changes to Train Yard, Traveling Vendors, and more are also making their way to Rust Console Edition, giving you even more ways to move around the island and shake up your usual routes.

The test will run until October 22 across 100, 150, and 200 player servers, so jump in, take the new trains for a spin, explore everything else coming with the update, and be sure to share your feedback with us.

Storage boxes arrive September 24th

Alongside the quality of life update arriving with this wipe, which we will cover in more detail later in this Dev Blog, the Storage Box DLC is also making its debut.

This new collection includes 16 unique skins, each designed to make organising your base much easier while giving your storage rooms a much cleaner look. From weapons, armor and explosives to resources, food, tools and components, there is a dedicated design for just about everything you will want to keep tucked away. Be sure to check it out on your platform store.

Halloween is coming!

Starting October 15 and running through November 4, Halloween returns to Rust Console Edition just in time for spooky season!

All the seasonal chaos you remember from last year will be making a comeback, including the Trick or Treat event, your new best friend Frankenstein, and mysterious Ghost Portals scattered across the island.

October will also bring plenty of new seasonal skins to help you celebrate the season, alongside the return of some past fan favorites. And who knows... there might even be a new DLC lurking in the shadows.

Quality of Life update

So, what can you expect from this upcoming wipe? We have some exciting changes arriving with the Quality of Life update, with a strong focus on polishing the experience and addressing feedback from the community.

Highlights include an engine upgrade, the ability to unclaim Sleeping Bags and Beds, improved Treasure Box spawns, plus fixes for Minicopters, Caves, Flame Turrets, and more.
