Dev Blog #50
Welcome to World 2.0, where Rust Console Edition is getting a major shake up with new additions that will change the way you explore, build, and survive. From bigger maps to brand new rock formations and lush oases, this update is packed with fresh new ways to experience the island. And that’s only the beginning. Be sure to read on for a full breakdown of everything coming in World 2.0 Part 1.
A Bigger Island…
The foundation of World 2.0 starts with bigger maps. With this update, every official server will move to a 4.5k map, making the island feel larger, more dynamic, and full of new opportunities. Community servers will still have the option to run smaller maps, depending on the experience they want to offer. Server owners will be able to choose new configurations with world 2.0, so be sure to check them out on our official Wiki.
We are also looking at increasing server population in the future, but that will need more internal and external testing before anything is locked in. We will have more to share on that after the monthly wipe, including some future dates for testing higher population servers on the Public Test Branch.
New Rock Formations
One of the biggest highlights in this update is the introduction of brand new rock formations to Rust Console Edition. With iconic new spots like the God Rock, Anvil Rock, and Arch Rock to explore, the landscape is getting a serious upgrade. These huge formations are not just great to look at, they also unlock all kinds of new base building possibilities, including designs tucked deep inside the rocks. So let your imagination run wild, because we will soon be hosting a contest for the best bases built around these new formations. Time to start capturing those screenshots and clips.
New Sights To Discover
World 2.0 brings much more than bigger maps and new rock formations. Every new map will be packed with fresh landmarks, new points of interest, and unique environments waiting to be explored.
Cliffs
We’ve completely overhauled cliffs across the game, adding two distinct cliff types: towering coastal cliffs and sloped inland cliffs. Designed to look more natural while improving movement, inland cliffs are easy to navigate, while coastal cliffs can be climbed using rocky ledges and protrusions for more vertical exploration. In addition to these we’ve added many new coastal rocks close to the shore to enhance your survival adventure!
Canyons
With narrow routes and steep terrain, these landscapes add new layers of strategy and danger to combat while creating thrilling opportunities for ambushes, surprise attacks, and inventive base locations. Canyons can be rich in resources, but push too deep or linger too long and their walls can quickly turn from cover into a deadly trap.
Lakes
The new waterways offer plenty of opportunities for fishing, farming, gathering resources, and building along the shoreline. Just be careful, open water can leave you exposed, and swimming quickly becomes a disadvantage when you are trying to escape, especially far from shore.
Oasis
These lush desert sanctuaries offer ideal ground for building, farming, and gathering vital supplies. But don’t expect to have them to yourself! Oases are bound to draw attention and spark fierce competition.
Woodpiles
Introducing Woodpiles! A brand new way of attaining wood in both snowy and temperate biomes. These can be found scattered around the terrain and are harvestable with a rock, hatchet or chainsaw. A great source of wood early in the game to start off your Rust journey.
Rivers
Rivers are now longer, wider, and flow more naturally than before, carving through the world with a stronger sense of scale, movement, and adventure.
Ring Road
Lastly, there is the Ring Road, a two lane paved road that wraps around the outer edges of each Rust island. Along the way, you will pass gas stations, supermarkets, and warehouses, while smaller single lane roads branch off toward individual monuments. It is the perfect route for a road trip around the island with your teammates.

Monthly DLC - Pilot Pack
Salvaged from the crash site of a downed aircraft, this fighter pilot flight suit doubles as a functional Hazmat suit, built for survival in harsh conditions. The pack also includes the elite M15 Semi Automatic Pistol, Black Box storage, Flight Control Codelock, and Salvaged Ejector Seat.
That’s all for this month’s Dev Blog. Thank you for being part of the journey with us. Be sure to check back next month, where we’ll be sharing more about the roadmap for the rest of the year and giving you a closer look at what’s still to come. We’re incredibly excited for what lies ahead, and we hope you are too.
- See you on the island.
