Dev Blog #34

Season’s Greetings, Survivors! As 2024 winds down, we can’t help but marvel at the action-packed adventure this year has been! But before we say goodbye to an incredible year, let’s dive into the final Dev Blog of the season. We’ve got some exciting updates to share with you for Rust Console Edition - let’s unwrap what’s coming your way!

NEWLY ADDED!

QUEUE JUMP SYSTEM

If you get disconnected and rejoin within 2 minutes, you’ll be given priority in the queue. This feature is enabled by default on Official Servers. Community Server owners, please refer to the WIKI for Priority Re-Queue convars.

LEFT HAND PoV

Players can now switch to a left-handed perspective through the Options menu. This option allows left-handed players to customise their gameplay by mirroring the standard controls, making the game feel more comfortable and intuitive. Simply head to the Options menu, and toggle the Left-Handed option to adjust your view and controls accordingly.

LOADING SCREEN FOR SEASONAL EVENTS

We've added a helpful sentence to the current Loading Screen which will be displayed every time an event changes status, so players can easily see when an event activates, pauses, or ends.

NO GREEN

Owners, Admins, and Mods can now choose to hide their role on their CMS server. The option, found in the control panel, is labelled “Hide Admin Status” and can be toggled On/Off.

When enabled, this feature will display the player as a normal user in the player list and tabs, remove the colour change in chat, and hide their username from the team tab on the welcome screen. It’s a great way to maintain a low profile while managing the server!

TRANSLUCENT ICONS

The Tool Cupboard and certain storage containers can only accept specific items, any items that cannot be stored in the selected container will now display a translucent icon, making it clear which items are not accepted.

REMOTE C4 DETONATION

C4 can now be remotely triggered using an RF Transmitter. This new functionality allows for more strategic detonation, giving players greater control over their explosions from a distance. Perfect for planning ambushes or timed raids!

CHRISTMAS CONTENT

Christmas Events will be live in game on official servers from December 12th to January 2nd, community server owners can adjust these dates based on their preference. This year’s festivities include all your favourite features from last year like the 'presents' event along with the return of fan-favourites like the Candy Cane Club, Gingerbread Mines, Snowball Gun, Ice Walls, and more! But that’s not all - we’ve added some brand-new Christmas-themed goodies to make this year’s celebration even more magical. Details on those are just below!

NEWLY ADDED FESTIVE FEATURES!

ADVENT CALENDAR

Yes, you read that right! An Advent Calendar is coming to Rust Console Edition - Starting December 16th, this festive calendar will be live on Official Servers and available for you to craft as a default blueprint. The Advent Calendar will allow players to claim a new present every real life day! The countdown to Christmas just got a whole lot more exciting!

(Community Server owners, please refer to the WIKI for Advent Calendar convars)

MONUMENT DECORATIONS

Monuments like Fishing Village and Bandit Camp are getting a festive makeover! Enjoy the sight of Christmas lights and decorations as you explore and celebrate the season.

CHRISTMAS SACK

For the duration of the Xmas Event, Burlap Sacks are getting a seasonal upgrade! They've been replaced with a more thematic and festive version, perfectly capturing the holiday spirit.

RETURN OF RUST XMAS

Once a player enters the Server, Santa will appear every 30minutes to an hour and a Christmas Jingle will play, notifying players. Once this happens, Christmas Presents will be spawned within a 40 metre radius around players and stockings around the map will also fill up. (For Community Servers this depends on the Convars, Community Server owners and admins, please refer to the WIKI for XMAS convars.).

PRESENTS

Spawned presents will stand out with a festive spotlight and snowflakes swirling around them, making them easy to spot in the wintery landscape. Each present will remain available for 30 minutes, so be sure to grab them before they disappear!

Presents come in small and medium sizes to start, but here’s the twist: you can combine them to trade up for a larger present that offers higher-tier rewards.

Just like barrels, presents need to be farmed - break them open to uncover a treasure trove of goodies! Expect to find resources, weapons, and candy to keep the festivities rolling.

STOCKINGS

Stockings drop from Christmas Presents. Once collected, hang them up to spread the cheer. Watch as they magically fill up with loot each time the bells jingle!

CRAFTABLES

During the Xmas Event, a special lineup of craftable items will be available! These festive creations are exclusive to the event, non-researchable, and will automatically appear as default crafting recipes. Here’s the complete list of craftable goodies to spread the holiday cheer!
