DEV BLOG #10

Correction: The date of the monthly server wipe is September 29th, not 30th as originally stated. Apologies for any confusion!

Hello survivors, welcome to another Rust Console Edition Dev Blog. There's a lot to cover today including more information on the upcoming content update, but first let’s talk about what the dev team has been up to this month and what our plans are for the near future….

What have we been working on?

At the end of last month we released Oceanbound, bringing with it the highly requested Cargo Ship. With it now sailing the waters surrounding the island and players having awesome fights onboard, it’s time to reflect on where we are now. Thankfully we have a very active and vocal community which is not afraid to share their opinion and thanks to that, we are able to make more informed decisions on what our players want.

We heard you loud and clear, and we know how important it is for some of the exploits and bugs in the game to be fixed. We want to make sure everyone gets the best experience possible.

With that goal, we are prioritising a stability patch before we update the Public Test Branch with features for the next content update. We have come a long way since the release of the game and our internal metrics reflect that, with major performance improvements. As for crashes, our current count is really low and we aim to keep it that way.

Halloween is coming!

Halloween is almost here and at the moment we are testing a special event on the Public Test Branch. We plan to bring this event to the main branch during the Halloween season. This event will allow you to collect candy and other rewards to celebrate this spooky occasion!

Skin Store - In addition to some new designs, we will also be resurrecting some of the Halloween skins from last year. Be sure to join our Discord and share your Halloween skins combination in our #rate-the-drip channel.

What’s coming next?

As mentioned above, our number one priority at the moment is to work on improving stability. The end of the year will see new features added to the Public Test Branch that will eventually be released as part of the Powersurge content update.

Caution: Live Wires! The Powersurge content update introduces the electricity system and playable content, so we need to be very careful with it. The Public Test Branch will be updated with new features over the coming months, to test everything thoroughly so we can find and address any possible issues. Only when we are confident with the update will we then plan release on the main branch.

Special event servers

Something that was highly requested - We are doing some evaluations to bring special event servers to the main branch in the near future.

We are still working out the logistics, but while community servers are being worked on, we want to offer our players new ways to experience Rust Console Edition. Just to give some examples, event servers can contain higher gathering rates, special rules, spawn loadouts, and more. There are some special servers already running on the Public Test Branch.

Special event servers may follow a rotating system, meaning that not all events will be available at the same time, but we are still weighing our options to give players an optimised experience. Once more details are available, we will share it on our website and social media.

We don’t have a release date for these types of servers yet, but we would like to try and implement some of them before  the end of the year so stay tuned.

That’s all we have to share in this month’s Dev Blog. Hope you all have a great wipe on the 29th of September!
