Survivors, the Underground Trains Update arrives on the main branch with the monthly wipe on August 27th! Alongside it, we’ve got a brand new DLC, and more to cover in this month’s Rust Console Edition Dev Blog. Let’s get into it!
UNDERGROUND TRAINS
UNDERGROUND TUNNEL NETWORK
A brand new underground railway network now runs beneath the island, connecting major areas of the map and giving players a completely new way to travel. Tunnel entrances can be found near major monuments, with train icons on the map helping you locate your nearest way underground.
BUNKER ENTRANCES
Additional bunker entrances will provide another way into the underground tunnel network away from major monuments. These bunkers contain multiple rooms to explore, their own loot opportunities and even surveillance equipment that allows you to check the area above the entrance before heading outside.
UNDERGROUND STATIONS
Deep beneath each entrance you will find fully built underground stations, complete with platforms, loot, Work Carts and plenty of places for danger to be hiding. Each station has a slightly different layout, so you will still want to pay attention instead of confidently walking around like you own the place.
TUNNEL DWELLERS
The tunnels are very much occupied. Tunnel Dwellers patrol stations, barricaded areas and sections of the railway, armed with weapons including the M39 Rifle and M92 Pistol. They are less durable than some of the scientists found elsewhere on the island, but travelling underground unprepared is still an excellent way to donate your inventory.
Taking them down can reward you with components, medical supplies, ammunition, clothing, tools, electrical components, weapon attachments and even explosives.
WORK CARTS
Last but not least, the stars of the update. Work Carts allow you to travel through the tunnel network at high speed using Low Grade Fuel. Each cart can travel forwards or backwards at multiple speeds, making it much quicker to cross large sections of the island without having to brave the surface.
You can also follow your journey directly from the map, which switches to an underground view while you are inside the tunnel network.
SUNBURN IS HERE!
The Sunburn Pack brings summer to Rust with 15 beach themed items, including the Boogie Board, pools, water guns, recliners, sunglasses, swimwear and more. You can even capture your summer adventures with the Instant Camera and display your favourite shots using three different Photo Frames.
The Sunburn DLC will be available on platform stores starting August 27th, alongside the monthly wipe.
SERVER SIDE IMPROVEMENTS
There’s no set date just yet, but we are getting closer to rolling out server side improvements to Rust Console Edition. We know this has been a major concern for players, and we will share more details about these changes soon.
For now, please know that improving server performance remains one of our top priorities. Once these changes are implemented, we hope they will make a significant difference to the overall experience.
As for higher pop servers, this is still being tested and analysed. We’ll get back to you with more information as soon as we can.
