DEV BLOG #42
With the wipe closing in, it is time to take a look at what is coming to the island next! This month marks the first big content update for the New Gen version of Rust Console Edition, and it is a wild one. Modular vehicles are rolling in alongside motorbikes, pedal bikes and other new exciting features. We will break down each of these in detail and then take a look at the upcoming DLC dropping shortly after the wipe, bringing the long-awaited shipping container building skin and the brand new wallpaper pack to help you deck out your base. To wrap things up we will touch on the results of our anti-cheat (Rustguard) so far. But before we jump into these details, grab some popcorn and lets check out the latest Rust Console Edition trailer. Roll it! 🍿🎬
BUILD IT, RIDE IT, WRECK IT!
Modular vehicles are finally coming to the main branch of Rust Console Edition along with motorbikes and pedal bikes. On top of that we are also introducing the Junkyard monument. This update brings a whole new way to move around the island and makes exploring faster and more exciting than ever before. Out in the world you will be able to find different types of chassis and, if you have the right modules, you can start building your own custom ride. Want something speedy? Throw on more engine modules. Prefer something tough for you and your squad to roll up to a raid in? Go for a heavier setup with extra protection. Modular vehicles are not just useful, they are also a blast to put together and really open up new possibilities for gameplay. We could go on forever, but content creator Jfarr has already made the ultimate guide, so be sure to check out his video if you want the full breakdown.
Alongside modular vehicles you will also find pedal bikes and motorbikes making their way into Rust Console Edition. Pedal bikes can be found out in the world and are a fast and silent way to move around early on without the need for fuel. Motorbikes bring more speed and power but will require fuel to keep them running. Both are solid choices depending on how you want to play. Sure, you are more exposed than in a car, but the rush of speeding through the island on two wheels makes it worth the risk.
CAUGHT SLIPPIN
This update also brings in handcuffs and the prisoner hood, and they open up some pretty nasty possibilities. Now you can turn an enemy into your captive instead of just dropping them where they stand. Throw them in cuffs, slap a bag over their head, and drag them back to base to lock up in a homemade jail. Keep them there long enough and they are not coming back for revenge any time soon. Or, if you are feeling extra devious, you can use them as leverage when dealing with other players. Nothing says negotiation quite like having someone else’s teammate tied up deep inside your base. 😈
STEEL ON THE OUTSIDE, STYLE ON THE INSIDE
On top of all the new features we also have some DLC making its way over from Rust PC to Console. This time it is the shipping container building skin, a fan favourite that gives your base a nice “industrial” vibe. You will be able to recolor the panels using the spray can, adding some real personality to your compound.
And since it is not just the outside that matters, we’re also dropping the Wallpaper DLC at the same time. This pack comes with 26 different wallpapers options, with 4 of them available to everyone for free through the wallpaper tool once the DLC is live. With it you can deck out the inside of your base and give it a look that matches your desired style!
GUARDING THE ISLAND
We are happy to report that RUSTGUARD is doing its job extremely well. A solid number of players using third-party devices to cheat have been banned, some temporarily and a few permanently. The most important part is that we are seeing far less usage of these devices overall. Player numbers have not been affected, but the amount of cheaters has dropped by more than two thirds, from what was a small number to begin with. We are very pleased with the results of RUSTGUARD and will keep improving it to ensure the island stays fair and fun for everyone. Thank you all for the continued support.
That wraps it up for this month’s Dev Blog. Next month we will be rolling out a Quality of Life update and we will have plenty more details to share about it, in Dev Blog #43.
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy all the new additions and have a blast driving around the island on your new rides. As a fun little activity to celebrate the release of the new update, be sure to share your best Fast and Furious moments in Rust Console Edition with us on social media, and we will highlight the best ones.
