DEV BLOG #25 - UNDERGROUND ASSAULT — Rust Console Edition

Welcome to another Dev Blog! Today, we're excited to dive into the details of the upcoming UNDERGROUND ASSAULT update! Scheduled for release on the 29th of February, alongside the monthly wipe, this update brings a plethora of new features that promise to enhance your RUST experience. From fresh monuments to explore to an arsenal of new weapons, and a host of immersive gameplay enhancements, let's take a closer look at what's in store with this update!

EXPLORE THE MILITARY TUNNELS!

Introducing the newest landmark to the island of RUST Console Edition! Military Tunnels will be a tough one, survivors. Lots of players will be fighting over it, and scientists will be patrolling around. Despite most of this monument being underground, the area that it covers is still massive, giving room to plenty of awesome fire fights!

Inside, there's a puzzle room waiting to be unlocked. To crack it, you'll need a green keycard, a blue keycard, a red keycard, and an electric fuse. Oh and don't forget your hazmat suit as some areas are radioactive!

Why bother? Well, the loot here is top-notch, and there’s almost no restrictions stopping you from tackling this monument early on! Players have been asking for this landmark for ages, and we're stoked to be bringing this to you. Get ready to explore the Military Tunnels and grab some awesome loot!

EXPAND YOUR ARSENAL

With this update, we wanted to revitalise the combat systems to keep the gameplay as fresh as possible. In order to do that, we introduced new weapons, attachments, throwables and other systems to improve your combat experience. Let's break down the new additions coming with the UNDERGROUND ASSAULT.

First up, we've got the Prototype 17. This pistol can shoot in bursts and has a glowing ironsight for when you're trying to aim in the dark. Then there's the M4 Shotgun which is not just for close-up fights but for mid range as well. And last but not least we have the HMLMG. This machine gun is similar to the M249, but you can craft it. It's not quite as powerful, but it still packs a punch!

To complement the new weapons, there's also new attachments and throwables. First off, there's the extended magazine. It lets you carry more bullets, so you can stay in the fight longer. This can be crucial in some situations, and can dictate the difference between winning or losing an encounter. And then there's the Burst Fire mod. This attachment lets you switch some guns to burst mode, giving you more options in combat. Be sure to test them out to see which fire mod better suits your playstyle.

We're tossing in a couple of new toys to play with. There's the Molotov Cocktail which can block certain entries, help you incinerate your opponents, or even be used for raiding. The Molotov can be extremely versatile and powerful in the right hands. And then there’s the Flashbang. It'll blind your foes temporarily, giving you the upper hand in combat.

Along with all these additions, there’s other changes to combat like the addition of a crosshair, new items like the night vision goggles, and the option to turn off your own footsteps. Be ready because UNDERGROUND ASSAULT promises a completely new fighting experience for RUST Console Edition.

NEW FEATURES

In addition to all the cool things we've talked about, there are a few more that you will love in this update. These are little changes that make your RUST life even better.

First up, we are bringing 3.5k maps to RUST! You’ll see this change on some of our official servers. Community Server owners will also have the option to expand the map all the way to 3.5K.

We've introduced the spray can, allowing you to switch skins on the fly for all of your weapons and deployables!

There's the introduction of the wounded state. Basically, when your health drops to zero, you will still be able to crawl around, instead of being static in the same place. This can really come in handy during a big fight where you will be able to reposition yourself and make it easier for your teammates to save you. Alternatively, if you have a large medkit in your hotbar, you can revive yourself!
