Clarifying the New Gen Upgrade Process

Hello survivors!

I would like to take a moment to clear up some common questions about upgrading from old gen to New Gen versions of the game, as well as the available upgrade options from Base to Deluxe or from Deluxe to Ultimate. I know there has been some confusion, especially around the different incentives, so this post will go over everything in detail.

Let’s start with the free upgrade from old gen to new gen within the same version of the game. Since there are some differences depending on the platform, I will go over each one separately to make things as clear as possible.

Xbox Series X|S

On Xbox, the process is very simple. All you need to do is be on an Xbox Series X|S and look for the Rust New Gen page, which is the one with this key art:

Depending on which version you own on the old generation, you should see the message "You own this" on the matching version of the new gen. For example, if you own the Base version, you will automatically receive the Base version of the new gen, and the same goes for the Deluxe and Ultimate editions. You will get the new gen version for free that corresponds to what you already own.

Edition Upgrade

For Xbox users who already own the Base version of the new gen game and want to upgrade to either deluxe or Ultimate, there should be a large discount available when purchasing them.

For Disc owners -  After some internal testing, we found that the discount is not showing up as intended. We are working closely with our partners to understand the issue and get it fixed.

There is no need to worry. You will be able to upgrade your version at a reduced price very soon. Keep an eye on our Twitter/X page and we will update you once things are working as intended.

PlayStation 5

The process will be the same as on Xbox, with one important note. The free upgrades are not available yet. We are working closely with our partners at PlayStation to get this set up as soon as possible.

Once the upgrade is available, it will work just like on Xbox. You will be able to get access to the new gen version that matches the edition you already own, whether that is Base, Deluxe, or Ultimate for free.

We will share updates on our social media channels as soon as the upgrade goes live, so keep an eye out!

Edition Upgrade

The upgrade path on PlayStation is meant to be very similar to what we have on Xbox, since we want the experience to be consistent across both platforms. However, this option is not live yet.

We are doing everything we can to get it in place as soon as possible and our team is working closely with our partners to resolve this. We’ll update you on our social channels as soon as we have more to share on this. We really appreciate your patience in the meantime.

With the details out of the way, I would like to answer some of the questions I’ve seen on our Twitter/X page and Discord server.

1. If I bought the Cobalt Pack, would I get Deluxe access?
A: You get a free upgrade to the same version of the game that you originally purchased, both on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. If you bought the Base version, your free upgrade will be to the new gen Base version, and so on.

2. If I have PTB access through the Dark Camo Pack, do I get new gen PTB access for free?
A: No. The Dark Camo Pack gives you access to the PTB servers on the old gen version of the game.

3. My friend gameshare’s with me. They have the Deluxe Edition of Rust Console Edition. Will I get early access, skins, and Rust Coins in the new gen version too?
A:
Game sharing only applies to the base game. Extra content such as skins, Rust Coins, or early access is tied to the original purchaser’s account. You will not receive those additional items through game sharing.

4. When will community servers be available on the new gen version of Rust? Will it be on June 19 or June 26?
A:
Community servers for the new gen version should be available starting June 19.

5. Will the seven-day early access follow a weekly wipe schedule?
A: With the start of early access, we will offer both weekly and monthly servers, giving players the freedom to choose the type of experience they prefer. For monthly servers, the first wipe cycle will be extended by one week, starting on June 19 and ending on July 31. Weekly servers will continue to follow their regular schedule, with wipes taking place every Thursday.

That’s all for now, but feel free to send in any other questions you may have. We will continue to monitor your feedback and update our FAQs as needed to keep everyone informed about the new gen version of Rust Console Edition.

Until then, see you on the island!
